Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park is one of the national park located in southern part of Tanzania, about 283 Km west of Dar es Salaam. It cover an area of about 3,230 square kilometres and bordered to the south by Nyerere National Park. The park is known for it open grassland, acacia woodlands and the Mkata River, which flows through the national park and provides a source of water for the wildlife.

Mikumi is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, elephants, leopard’s lions and many species of antelopes. The chance to encounter lions climbing trees here greater than in other parks! The park is also home to over 400 species of birds making it ideal destination for birdwatcher. Tourist can enjoy self-drive trips and camping in the park.

Mikumi is popular destination for self-drive trip from Dar es Salaam and the southern park such as Ruaha National Park and Nyerere National Park. The park is easily accessible by road and has several accommodation options including lodge and campsite
